During the covid-19 pandemic, mental health therapists have become experts at offering virtual therapy appointments. Like most other therapists I know, I was a bit hesitant about doing teletherapy before the pandemic pushed us to to go online. Now that I’ve tried it, teletherapy will definitely be remaining on my service list after the pandemic due to its ease, convenience, and accessibility. Teletherapy allows me to see therapy clients from all over the State of Michigan (and coaching clients from all over the world). I really like it. And here are some things my clients tell me they like about it too:
What do my clients like about teletherapy?
One, it is safe. There is no need to leave your home and risk covid infection. Talk therapy can take place safely online, from the comfort of your bedroom, sofa, or kitchen table.
Two, it is easy. My tech savvy child/adolescent and young adult clients love having therapy with the click of a button from their bedrooms and dorm rooms. It’s possible already being in their cozy “safe place” helps them open up even more than being in a therapy office. If your child’s school agrees to provide a private, confidential office, kids can attend their therapy sessions right from school. All they need is a link to their video appointment.
Three, it is convenient. Parents don’t need to re-arrange their work schedules, take time off, drive across town for an appointment, or find childcare for siblings. Teens can fit their therapy in between the end of school and the start of practice.
Four, it is accessible. My office is in Traverse City but if you are living in a rural area with few qualified child psychologists nearby, teletherapy can help your child receive services that otherwise might be too difficult to get to. With teletherapy, location is no longer an issue. I’m able to provide teletherapy to families living anywhere in Michigan from Kalamazoo to the Porcupine Mountains.
How can I do teletherapy?
Teletherapy allows me to provide therapy to my clients via live video conferencing. This can be done anywhere you have a computer, tablet, or smartphone and an internet connection. My online telehealth platform, Simple Practice, lets you to complete intake paperwork, schedule follow-up appointments, and access billing documents directly online. It’s simple and easy to use.
